Tonight marks the opening of Opera Australia's brand new production of Sondheim's A Little Night Music in which Matthew plays the role of Henrik Egerman. Tonight marks Melbourne's introduction to Trevor Ashley's Showqueen Sundays cabaret sessions in which Matthew will perform a sample of his latest original music. After eight months of touring, Opera Australia's production of My Fair Lady, in which Matthew plays the role of Freddy Eynsford-Hill, will close this Sunday at the Theatre Royal in Sydney. With the current cast featuring Richard E. Grant, Taryn Fiebig, John Wood and Nancye Hayes, the final Sunday 2pm matinee will signal the closure of what has proven to be both a critical and box office success. Matthew will perform tonight in a live recording session for Trevor Ashley's Showqueen Sunday @ The Supper Club in Sydney. Every Sunday night for the past three months, a number of cabaret and music theatre artists have been appearing at the live music venue, culminating in eleven artists being chosen to be recorded live for CD release. It can now be officially announced that Matthew's first musical Metro Street will receive its first professional production in 2009. The State Theatre Company of South Australia in association with Arts Asia Pacific and Power Arts will produce the World Premiere of Metro Street which will open at the Adelaide Festival Centre's Dunstan Playhouse on April 7, 2009. Australian theatrical legend Nancye Hayes and Adelaide's own Cameron Goodall, who previously starred as Hamlet for the State Theatre Company, will star in the production with further casting to be announced in the near future. It has just been announced this evening that the return Sydney season of My Fair Lady in October at the Theatre Royal will feature two additions to the cast. John Wood will take on the role of Alfred P. Doolittle, while Henry Higgins will be played by British film star Richard E. Grant. Matthew performed On The Street Where You Live at both the Sydney Theatre Royal and Brisbane Lyric Theatre launches this week before preparing for his Sydney Opera House debut in the musical's first round of Sydney performances opening June 21st. It has been announced that Matthew will be playing the role of Freddy Eynsford-Hill in Opera Australia's 2008 national tour of My Fair Lady. The launch at Melbourne's Arts Centre last night saw Matthew perform On The Street Where You Live, alongside a sparkling rendition of I Could Have Danced All Night from Opera Australia leading lady Taryn Fiebig, who will be playing the coveted role of Eliza Doolittle. Other cast members announced last night include Reg Livermore as Professor Henry Higgins, Rhys McConnochie as Colonel Pickering, Robert Grubb as Alfred P. On Monday Oct 22nd, Matthew's Pratt Prize-winning musical Metro Street will be performed in Melbourne for the first time since its Pratt Prize workshop in 2005. This most recent draft features five new songs and a re-worked libretto. Metrosexual, Matthew's one man show will tour to Canberra in one week's time. The Singing Office, in which Matthew appears as an on-screen vocal coach, has a confirmed screening date. Episode One will premiere on Foxtel's Fox 8 Channel on Sunday September 9 at 6.30pm. Foxtel has confirmed that Matthew will be part of their new premier FOX8 series The Singing Office. The series will shoot from June to September and hit screens later this year. Matthew will come on board as their on-screen vocal coach, training various teams of non-professional singers from professional companies how to perform in readiness for an on-screen competition. The show will conclude with a star-studded Grand Final. Details to come.

Matthew will fly to Adelaide this weekend to take part in the Adelaide Cabaret Festival Jeremy Sams Masterclass. Jeremy Sams most recently directed the English revival of The Sound of Music, as well as the hugely successful Little Britain Live and has written, arranged and directed music for companies including the English National Opera and the Royal Shakespeare Company.
